Fleuron WISE™ (Water Invisible Soft Elastomer) sheets are refractive-index (RI) matched to water (1.33), enabling samples to be confined with minimal introduction of optical aberrations during imaging. Their soft and flexible nature allows them to conform to biological samples and imaging environments without introducing a rigid interface.

WISE sheets are available in a range of thicknesses, including 50, 75, and 100 µm. Sheets are supplied on thin, 50 mm diameter glass substrates and can be easily cut to the desired size and shape using a razor blade.

Minimized Aberration Imaging with WISE sheets

Light-sheet microscopy images of C. elegans immobilized using 50 µm WISE sheets. As a control, specimens were imaged using a comparable soft material with a Refractive Index (RI) of 1.40, which is not matched to water. Cross-sectional views show pronounced optical aberrations with the non-RI-matched material, while WISE minimizes aberrations through refractive-index matching with the surrounding aqueous medium.
