Fleuron WISE (Water Invisible Soft Elastomer) is a UV-curable, water-index-matched polymer designed for optical clarity in aqueous imaging. With a refractive index closely matched to water (~1.33), WISE effectively “disappears” when submerged—minimizing optical aberrations and enabling sharp, high-resolution visualization of biological samples.

Supplied as a liquid that cures under UV light, WISE can be easily cast and molded into micron-scale features. Once cured, it forms a soft, mechanically flexible elastomer, making it well suited for microstructured devices, custom sample chambers, and biological environments where material compliance is important. WISE is engineered to support demanding visible-light super-resolution methods, where even slight refractive-index mismatch can degrade image quality.

In addition to its optical performance and mechanical flexibility, WISE is inert and biocompatible, with low water permeability and negligible small-molecule sorption. The polymer also exhibits minimal swelling in most organic solvents. Its gas permeability (O₂/CO₂) further supports live-sample applications.
